I have calculated the yarn amount I used per color and rounded it up to get the number of balls. Both Sunkissed and Cotton 8 come in 50g balls and have a running length of 170m per ball. If your tension is much different to mine you may need more or less yarn than I needed. Please realize that this is an estimate based on my personal tension and style of crochet. I have done some calculation on how much yarn you need of each color to make a mandala similar to mine.
